Counselling

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step – Lao Tzu”

taking the first step into counselling

Sometimes we need to talk, but more importantly we need someone to listen properly and without judgement.  You may be finding life hard at the moment or have the desire to discuss problems which are getting in the way of your happiness.  This is where counselling can help, by allowing you to speak about what you are going through, and also to make sense of it.

Counselling creates a safe place for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a caring, accepting and non-judgmental environment.

Therapy offers you a chance to explore deeply held beliefs about yourself and your personality, and to look at how your past has helped to shape the person you are today. You can explore patterns of behaviour in your life, release true potential, find meaning and live a more satisfying and rewarding life.

Counselling can help you to:

  • Talk through your problems and express your feelings
  • Become more aware of yourself
  • Become more able to explore options and choices that are available to you
  • Feel more in control of your life
  • Improve your relationships
  • Increase confidence and self-esteem

Your reasons for coming to counselling may vary enormously but can include:

  • Relationship problems including feelings of insecurity, jealousy, abuse, lack of intimacy, communication issues
  • Feelings of isolation and loneliness, despair, emptiness.
  • Stress at work and home
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Childhood experiences including abuse and trauma
  • Feelings of dissatisfaction and lack of meaning
  • Feelings of guilt, shame
  • Fear, anxiety, depression
  • Sexuality
  • Anger and resentment
  • Health worries

The decision to talk to someone can be hard, but can be a liberating step towards a more positive future.  Therapy provides a safe space in which to explore your feelings, discover or re-discover yourself, gain understanding and move into the present.  It can be the key to overcoming life’s hurdles and making lasting changes in your life and relationships.
